It's December!! Holiday Reads are in the House Wahoo!

Reading holiday novels in December has become an annual tradition for me and something that I look forward to every year. I usually accumulate a few in November and have to sit on my hands to keep myself from not starting them before Thanksgiving. I managed to only read one ahead of December, so I consider that a big win for me. 

Here's what I'll be reading to get myself into the holiday mood:

I haven't read any of this series, and I'm not starting with the first one, but I don't care! Love me some Jenny Colgan. 

A sweet little non-fiction book about achieving comfort at home, American hygge style. 

I'm returning to Charleston again for a ghostly tale in my favorite series. 

Saw this at the bookstore and it was an impulse buy. Don't know much about it! 

 I have a love/hate relationship with Anita Hughes. Her novels are so outside of my reality, but I can't seem to stay away. 

Returning to Ireland for Christmas. Love this series. 

Christmas and romance go together, and I can't resist it. 

I'll probably be reading more than these, too. I'd like to try some cozy mysteries with a holiday theme. My Christmas tree is up and decorated, I'm working on the rest of the house (forcing myself to keep it simple!), and I'm ready to be on the couch with a cup of tea (I love tea AND coffee), a blanket, and some mint chocolate Hershey's kisses. Bring on the holidays!

July! In the Thick of Summer Reading

Going through the pile of books I want to read this month...well, I have to whittle it down. Darn it! I can certainly say if our weather continues to be super hot and super humid (the dew point was a balmy 77 today) I'll be spending a lot of time inside reading. A/C is definitely my friend. 

So, it looks like I'm traveling around the world this July in my reading choices. And actually, completely outside this world, too. Here's what's on my plate this month:

The first in the Discworld series from the master Terry Pratchett. My book group has picked Sci-fi/Fantasy as our theme for July. I bought it four years ago, so it's time to read it!

So many of my co-workers have read and loved this novel. I've had it in a pile for about 6 months. This was the push I needed to read it. I can't wait to read the story of Marsh Girl.

I mentioned this novel in my video last week. Food, family, and a San Francisco setting. OOOH I can't wait!

Oh Jenny Colgan. Thank you for writing a novel I can read this summer. Loch Ness, a bookstore, and friendship. What more could a reader want?

A publisher review. I started it and love the dual timeline. Easy to get sucked into this one! A granddaughter returns to the crumbling family estate to take care of her grandmother, who has a whole lot of family secrets waiting to be discovered. 

Another publisher review. A woman is given 3 months to live, so she chooses to finally be upfront and honest with the three people who have most effected her life (not for the better!) and the results are unexpected. Sounds grim, but actually uplifting and full of surprises. 

So there it is. I'm reading a few other books, too. I'm ready to settle in and read away the month of July. If only I could get up just a wee bit earlier to grab more reading time...

July! In the Thick of Summer Reading

I Can't Wait to Tell You What I'm Reading in December: Bring on the Holiday Novels!

As I'm making my way through two three novels this week, and hitting a dip in my NaNoWriMo project, I have been longingly thinking of the holiday books I've got lined up for December.  

I started reading fun, holiday themed books in December while I worked in retail. Working extra hours, literally running back and forth in the bookstore for hours each day, left me completely spent and fried. My solace was to dive into books that helped remind me that the holiday season was about family, friends, and that wonderful anticipation of Christmas morning.  I'm out of retail, but I still find myself feeling a bit overwhelmed at the holidays and needing that reminder to slow down and enjoy the season.  So, starting shortly after Thanksgiving--I've made myself wait until then--I've got a load of new holiday titles to read.  Maybe there's something in my list that you'll love, too:

As you can see, there are plenty of new titles out this holiday season.  Meanwhile, I'll be working away on my title list for November.  Reviews coming soon!  What holiday books are you reading in December?  Let me know!
